About

Jon&Banjo1Jon Sousa has been refining his skills as a student of music for over twenty-five years. Jon delights in continuing to expand his capacities in finger-style guitar and traditional Irish music to follow his own deep motivation to express the human spirit. He has dedicated his life to the study, performance and teaching of music to uncover what is most genuine within himself and others.

Jon’s early influences include heavy metal and rock music, which he spent years master-ing before engaging a committed study of traditional Irish music and solo finger-style guitar. Jon has studied with internationally renowned musicians, such as master guitarists, Pierre Bensusan and Tony McManus. He earned a master’s degree at the University of Limerick, where he studied with masters of traditional music, Andy Irivine, Clive Carroll, Ed Boyd, Yan Falquet, and Steven Cooney. At Naropa University, Jon studied guitar with Joseph Brenna & Janet Feder, and Sabar Drumming with master griot, Boubacar Diebate. Jon’s unique capacity to traverse territories of ethereal experience through his music comes through engaging in contemplative meditation practice as a way to encoun-ter the human journey.

Jon has performed with many bands and in numerous festivals over the years, including the Arise Festival of Colorado, the Envision Festival in Costa Rica, and the Inis Cealtra Festival in Mt. Shannon, Ireland. Currently, he can be found performing in Boulder and Denver as a solo artist in promotion of his latest CD, Twilight, playing lead guitar in The Portal, heralded by audiences for its shamanic power, or performing with his psychedelic tribal rock band, Lunar Fire. If you’re lucky, you might also catch one of his well-loved house concerts or festival performances with dynamic Irish fiddler, Adam Agee.
